Graduation Application

Submitting a graduation application is not the same as confirming your participation in the annual graduation ceremony. You must submit a graduation application even if you do not plan to participate in the annual commencement ceremony.

Graduation Application deadlines are the last day of each semester. Winter Term is included in the spring semester and May Term is included in the summer term. Summer graduates have until the last day of the second summer term to apply.

If you plan to continue taking courses at any Dallas College campus after you complete your degree and you wish to receive financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible.

Note: Dallas College may graduate current and former students who have met graduation requirements with or without the student’s permission.

For more detailed information about degree and certificate requirements for graduation, see the catalog.

Graduation Application FAQs

When should I apply for graduation?

You should apply for graduation at the beginning of the semester when you register for the last classes required for your degree. You should meet with your success coach to make sure you pick the right classes. The deadline to apply is the last day of the semester. Deadlines may be different if you plan to participate in the May graduation ceremony.

How do I know if I am eligible to graduate?

Please meet with your success coach before you register for your last classes to review your program of study.

How do I make changes to my graduation application?

What happens after my graduation application is submitted to the degree audit office?

Once you have successfully submitted your graduation application you will receive an email confirmation with the details of your submission. During the semester, degree audit specialists will review your progress toward completing your degree or certificate. You should receive an email with an update about your status, as well as information about when you will receive your award. After the end of the semester, degree audit specialists will review your program, and you will be notified that either you have not met requirements or that your degree/certificate has been awarded.

Are there deadlines to submit graduation applications?

Yes! The graduation application deadline is the last day of the semester. Winter term is included in the spring semester, and May term is included in the summer semester. Summer graduates have until the last day of the second summer term to apply. Degrees are awarded at the end of the full semester, starting in December for fall graduates, May for spring graduates, or August for summer graduates. Deadlines may be different if you plan to participate in the May graduation ceremony.

What if I miss the deadline?

What should I do if I have completed more than one program of study?

You may submit a graduation application for each program you are completing.

Can I receive more than one degree or certificate?

Yes! At least 25% of the courses for the second degree or certificate must be unique to that degree, and not part of any degree or certificate you have already completed at Dallas College. Students may not receive both the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees.

If I do not finish my degree or certificate requirements, will my application carry over to the next term?

Please submit a new graduation application.

What if I finish my degree in one term but do not apply until later?

If you have completed all requirements for your program, then your degree will be awarded for the semester in which you submit your graduation application. We do not begin awarding degrees until after the end of the semester, even if you have already completed all your requirements in a previous semester. Please note that you must be eligible for a current catalog for a degree to be awarded. If you have not attended within the last five years, you may need to complete additional coursework.

Why do I have to apply for graduation?

Your graduation application is documentation of your intent to graduate.

What is a degree audit?

A degree audit is the process of checking your records to verify you have met all the graduation requirements for your program, including making sure your transfer courses and any substitutions have been properly applied to your program. Degree audit specialists will complete your official degree audit after you apply to graduate.

What does it mean to have residency?

At least 25% of your program must be completed through college-level courses completed at Dallas College. Developmental courses, transfer courses, and credit you receive by examination, non-traditional credit, or military training will not meet this requirement.

Can the evaluation of my degree/certificate be expedited?

In most cases, no, it cannot. If you have a special circumstance, please contact DegreeAudit@DallasCollege.edu.

What is the difference between graduation and the graduation ceremony (commencement)?

Graduation means that your academic record shows that you have completed all the requirements for your program. The graduation ceremony is a celebration of your accomplishment. Graduation and the graduation ceremony are separate but related events – participation in the ceremony does not necessarily mean that you have graduated.
